Our Approach

We embed cancer prevention strategies into music and community cultural spaces, leveraging the WSCC (Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child) framework to extend health education beyond institutions and into community life.

Key Strategies

We partner with sponsors and community allies to make prevention visible, accessible, and culturally grounded through:

  • Culturally Responsive Messaging: Co-create prevention messages with local artists, DJs, choirs, and festival organizers.
  • On-Site Screening Access: Deploy mobile cervical and oral cancer screening units at concerts, festivals, and cultural gatherings.
  • Trusted Messenger Model: Engage youth ambassadors, school nurses, and community health workers to normalize prevention behaviors.
  • Digital Engagement: Use QR-based scheduling tools, multilingual materials, and artist-endorsed social media campaigns.
  • Cross-Sector Partnerships: Build durable collaborations between cultural venues, arts organizations, and healthcare systems.

Equity-Centered Implementation

Anticipated Outcomes

Our work prioritizes zip codes with elevated cancer burden and communities historically excluded from prevention resources. We reduce barriers by bringing services to trusted spaces, offering multilingual materials, and tracking participation by race, ethnicity, geography, and insurance status to ensure accountability.

With the support of sponsors and partners, this model is designed to achieve:

  • Increased awareness of cancer risk behaviors and prevention strategies
  • Higher intent to screen and improved follow-up scheduling
  • More HPV vaccination referrals and screening completions
  • Strengthened trust between healthcare providers and community members
  • Reduced disparities in screening participation across priority populations

Why This Matters

Music and cultural gatherings are powerful social hubs—places where identity is affirmed and community trust is strongest. By embedding prevention into these spaces, we create sustainable, community-rooted infrastructure that advances long-term cancer equity.
